The eighth day at COP29, hosted in Baku, Azerbaijan, saw a variety of climate-related events, organized at different zones.
Blue Zone Events
The events planned there kicked off with a session organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan titled "Decline in the Caspian Sea Waters Due to Climate Change."
Investing in Human Development
The COP29 Presidency, in partnership with UNESCO, the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNICEF, the Asian Development Bank, and the Green Climate Fund, will hold a high-level meeting on investment in human development for a future resilient to climate change. The meeting will serve as the official opening for the “Human Development - Children and Youth - Health - Education Day” and will launch global cooperation for the Baku COP29 Initiative on human development for climate adaptation. It will also adopt the Baku Guiding Principles for COP29 on human development to enhance climate resilience.
Additionally, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) will host a session titled "Investing in Education for Climate Adaptation: Promoting Early Development and Environmental Literacy."
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Energy will launch a roadmap for energy efficiency policy in Azerbaijan during the Blue Zone events.
Greening Education

The roundtable aims to promote global cooperation in greening education to ensure that environmental knowledge becomes an educational objective.
Green Skills and Jobs
A high-level triple roundtable on “Green Jobs and Skills” will be held by the COP29 Presidency, in collaboration with Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Labour, the Asian Development Bank, the ILO, and the OIC Employment Centre. This discussion will focus on securing a talent pool for climate-resilient jobs and retraining existing workers, highlighting key challenges and innovative solutions.
The Blue Zone will conclude Day 8 with a Ministerial Roundtable on “Global Climate Transparency”, an opportunity to strengthen political commitment to transparency in climate action.
Green Zone Events
The Green Zone will host a session titled "Scaling the Benefits of Clean Energy: Community Engagement and Workforce Development for the Next Generation". It will discuss best practices from both the public and private sectors in transforming how clean energy and climate solutions are deployed and how to better prepare students and the workforce for success in a carbon-constrained economy.
The session will feature experience-sharing from different communities, exploring how the benefits of the energy transition—including economic, environmental, and health benefits—can be expanded across cities and countries.
Empowering Future Sustainability
The Green Zone will also host an event titled "Enabling Factors for Future Sustainability," to focus on meeting present needs without compromising future generations' ability to meet their own needs. The event will launch a program focused on developing a future generation capable of climate adaptation, starting with early childhood development.
The main goal is to bring stakeholders together to develop a strategy for how early childhood education can enhance sustainability and climate action, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which ensures inclusive and equitable quality education.
Inclusion Day
An art exhibition under the theme "Inclusion Day" will explore the works of youth with special needs.

Climate Wellness
A session titled "Climate Wellness: Redefining Health and Climate Resilience Through Mental and Physical Well-Being" will be led by the Tanzania Climate Center. This session will discuss the crucial intersection of climate resilience, health, and well-being, shedding light on the often-overlooked importance of physical and mental health in climate action, particularly in Africa.
The Azerbaijani company organizing COP29 events will also host a session titled "Increasing Human Capital for a Green Future," focusing on the critical role of human capital, especially children and youth, in building a sustainable, low-carbon future.
