Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, met with several international officials in Baku, Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of COP29. Among them is Vilayat Eyvazov, Minister of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan, where they exchanged visions on enhancing security and stability, and discussed the vital role of the (I2LEC) initiative in mobilizing international efforts to support law enforcement institutions in the field of combating environmental crimes.

During the meeting, Sheikh Saif announced the launch of the strategic police dialogue between the Ministries of Interior of both countries to strengthen the security partnership in a way that supports the community's security and stability. This cooperation reflects the strong partnership between both nations, and contributes to enhancing international peace and security for the benefit of all societies.

Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan also met with Kamran Aliyev, the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan, where they reviewed international efforts under the (I2LEC) initiative to uncover environmental crimes. The discussion focused on the impact of combating these crimes on promoting justice and the rule of law. They also highlighted the importance of international cooperation to support peace, stability, and sustainable development globally, reaffirming their shared commitment to confronting organized crime to ensure the highest levels of security for societies.

The Minister of Interior also met with Ghada Waly, the UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Both had discussions on the strong partnership between the UAE and the UN, as well as the developments and new initiatives under the (I2LEC) to enhance international cooperation and empower law enforcement agencies in combating environmental crimes, aiming for a sustainable and prosperous future for humanity.

Furthermore, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Igor Krasnov, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, where they discussed the potential positive role of the (I2LEC) initiative in combating environmental and related crimes. They explored opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation in security and justice, exchanging experiences in addressing transnational security challenges, including counter-terrorism and organized crime. Expanding international cooperation contributes to strengthening security systems, ensuring greater stability and protection for communities.

Besides, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan also met with Alexander Zuev, the Assistant Secretary-General for the Rule of Law and Security Institutions at the UN Peacekeeping Operations. The meeting focused on the current regional and international developments and discussed the positive impact of the (I2LEC) initiative in enhancing stability in human communities. They emphasized the importance of strategic international partnerships and a firm commitment to the principles of the rule of law to address humanitarian crises and achieve lasting peace and justice worldwide.
